Shapi Magomedovitch Kaziev (born March 27, 1956 – died March 20, 2020) was a talented writer from Russia. He wrote many books, plays for the theater, and scripts for movies. He was from the Avar people, an ethnic group in the Caucasus region. Shapi Kaziev was especially known for his exciting historical novels.

About Shapi Kaziev's Life

Shapi Kaziev was born in a city called Makhachkala in the Dagestan region. In 1974, he moved to Moscow, the capital of Russia. There, he studied how to write scripts for movies at a famous film school called VGIK.

His Start in Movies and Plays

Shapi Kaziev's first movie script was for a film called Breakfast. He also wrote the script for a movie about a famous poet named Rasul Gamzatov, called "My Way." For his work in documentary films, he won a special award in 2003.

Besides movies, Shapi Kaziev wrote many plays for the stage. Some were funny comedies, and others were serious historical dramas. His first play, Answering machine, was published in 1986. A year later, his play about a historical leader named Imam Shamil, called Captive, was published. His plays were performed in theaters and on the radio in Russia and other countries.

Joining the Writers' Union

In 1989, Shapi Kaziev became a member of the USSR Union of Writers. This was a big group for writers in the Soviet Union.

Starting a Publishing House

In 1992, Shapi Kaziev started his own publishing company in Moscow. It was called "Echo of the Caucasus." He was in charge of publishing a magazine and books that shared stories about the culture and traditions of the Caucasus region.
