Shauntay Renae Hinton (born February 26, 1979) is an American actress, TV host, and beauty pageant winner. She is best known for winning the title of Miss USA 2002. After her win, she represented the United States in the Miss Universe 2002 pageant.

Early Life and Education
Shauntay Hinton was born and raised in Starkville, Mississippi. She graduated from Starkville High School in 1997.
After high school, Hinton attended Howard University in Washington, D.C. There, she studied broadcast journalism, which is the study of how to report news on television and radio.
Pageant Journey
Winning Miss D.C. USA
In November 2001, Hinton entered the Miss District of Columbia USA pageant. It was her first time competing, and she won the title. She was able to compete for the District of Columbia because she was a student at Howard University, which is located there.
Becoming Miss USA
As Miss D.C. USA, Hinton went on to the Miss USA 2002 pageant in Gary, Indiana. On March 1, 2002, she won the competition, becoming the fourth African American woman to be crowned Miss USA. Her victory was part of a historic moment, as four of the top five finalists in the pageant were African American.
After winning, Hinton competed in the Miss Universe 2002 pageant in Puerto Rico. As of 2025, she is one of only five Miss USA winners who did not place as a semi-finalist in the Miss Universe pageant.
Career After the Crown
Charity Work
Winning Miss USA gave Hinton a platform to help others. She used her title to support many charitable organizations. These included Susan G. Komen for the Cure (which fights breast cancer) and the USO (which supports military members and their families). In 2002, she helped raise over $34 million for these causes. She also serves as an Ambassador for [ChildFund International], a group that helps children in need around the world.
Television and Acting
Hinton used her broadcast journalism skills to build a career in television. She has worked as a host and news anchor for many TV networks. She was an anchor for the morning show on WCBI, a CBS news station in Mississippi. She also appeared on shows for NBC, Fox Sports, and The History Channel.
Hinton has also acted in TV shows and a video game.
