Early Career and Collaborations

From 1982 to 1985, Shawn Christopher toured as a backing vocalist for the famous R&B singer Chaka Khan. She also sang with an industrial dance band called My Life with the Thrill Kill Kult and was part of the group Sonia Dada. Shawn Christopher is also the sister of R&B singer, keyboardist, and producer Gavin Christopher.

Breaking Through with Dance Hits

In 1989, Shawn Christopher sang lead vocals on a song called "French Kiss" by DJ/producer Lil Louis. This song became a huge hit, reaching #1 on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play chart.

During the 1990s, Shawn Christopher had even more success on her own. She had three #1 songs on the Hot Dance Club Play chart:

  • "Another Sleepless Night" in 1991. This song also reached #67 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and #50 in the UK.
  • "Don't Lose the Magic" in 1992. This song peaked at #71 on the Hot 100 and #30 in the UK.
  • "Sweet Freedom" in 1998.
