Shanice Dileita Mohamed (born in 1993), known as Shay Lia, is a talented musician. She was born in France and has roots in Djibouti. Today, she lives in Montreal, Quebec, where she creates her music.

Shay Lia is famous for working with the artist Kaytranada. Her first solo music collection, called Dangerous, was even considered for a big music award in 2019.

Shay Lia's Early Life

Shay Lia grew up in Djibouti after being born in France. In 2012, she moved to Montreal to study communication at the Université du Québec à Montréal. Her father, Dileita Mohamed Dileita, was once the Prime Minister of Djibouti. This means he was a very important leader in the country.

How Shay Lia Started in Music

While living in Montreal, Shay Lia began sharing videos of herself singing online. One of these videos caught the eye of Kaytranada, a well-known music producer. This led to them working together often.

They created popular songs like "Leave Me Alone" from Kaytranada's 2016 album 99.9%. They also made the song "Chances" in 2018. For "Chances," both Shay Lia and Kaytranada were nominated for the SOCAN Songwriting Prize in 2019. This award recognizes great songwriters. Shay Lia also showed off her dancing skills in a video for Kaytranada in 2013.

Shay Lia's Solo Music

Shay Lia started releasing her own songs in 2018. She then released her first collection of songs, an EP called Dangerous, in May 2019. She has continued to release new music for her fans.
