Sheila Lea (born Sheila Maclagan; 16 March 1901 – 1992) was a talented British sculptor. She was known for creating beautiful statues and art pieces.

About Sheila Lea's Life

Sheila Lea was born in London, England, in 1901. Her father was from Scotland, and her mother was from Cornwall. When she was a child, Sheila lived for a while in a place called Bruton in Somerset.

Sheila's Art Education

Sheila loved art and went to two special schools to learn how to sculpt. First, she studied at the Bournemouth College of Art. Here, she learned from a famous sculptor named Joseph Hermon Cawthra. After that, she moved to London to study at the Regent Street Polytechnic School of Art.

Her Work and Exhibitions

After finishing her studies, Sheila Lea moved back to Bournemouth. She lived there for the rest of her life. She created many different sculptures, including small statues and larger groups of figures. She often worked with materials like bronze and plaster. Sheila was especially good at making portraits, which are sculptures that look like real people.

From 1946 to 1983, Sheila Lea showed her art in many important exhibitions. She regularly displayed her work at the Royal Academy of Arts in London. Her sculptures were also shown at the Paris Salon, which is a very famous art show in France. She also exhibited with the Society of Women Artists and was a member of the Bournemouth Arts' Club. You can see some of her amazing artwork at the Russell-Cotes Art Gallery & Museum.
