About Sheilah ReStack
Sheilah ReStack was born in 1975 in Caribou River, Nova Scotia. She studied at Mount Allison University, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and French. She then went to NSCAD University for her Bachelor of Fine Arts.
Later, she completed her Master of Fine Arts degree at Goldsmiths College. Today, Sheilah ReStack teaches art and is the head of the Studio Art department at Denison University.
Working with Dani ReStack
Sheilah ReStack often works with her wife, Dani (Leventhal) ReStack. Dani ReStack is an American photographer who has won many awards. They have received money to support their art from the Canada Council for the Arts.
Their work has also been recognized by the Through the Flower Foundation and the Ohio Arts Council. In 2017, their film Strangely Ordinary This Devotion was shown at the Whitney Biennial. This is a very important art exhibition.
The "Feral Domestic" Film Series
Sheilah and Dani ReStack worked together on a series of three films. These films are called "Strangely Ordinary This Devotion," "Come Coyote," and "Future From Inside." Together, they are known as "Feral Domestic."
These films were shown at various film festivals and art places. They received positive reviews from art critics. Maggie Nelson, a writer, praised the films for exploring queer families and showing the everyday details of home life. A book that goes with the film series, also called "Feral Domestic," was published in 2022.
