Sheinelle Marie Jones, born on April 19, 1978, is a well-known American journalist. She works as a news anchor and correspondent for NBC News. You might know her as one of the hosts of the third hour of the popular TV show Today on weekdays.
Sheinelle also hosts an educational nature show called Wild Child. This show is part of The More You Know block on NBC, which teaches viewers about different topics.
Early Life and Education
Sheinelle Marie Jones was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Her father is a U.S. District Court Judge named C. Darnell Jones II. She often talks about how her mother helped her grow up with a positive mindset. Her mother would put up inspiring messages all around their house.
Sheinelle went to middle school and high school in Wichita, Kansas. Later, she studied at Northwestern University in Evanston, Illinois. While in college, she joined a sorority called Alpha Kappa Alpha. Even when she was in high school, Sheinelle got her first chance to work in a CBS television newsroom. This was her first step into the world of journalism!
Sheinelle's Career Journey
Sheinelle Jones started her career in broadcasting in Springfield, Illinois, working for a station called WICS. Before joining NBC News, she worked at other TV stations. She was at KOKI-TV in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and WTXF-TV in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She worked at the Philadelphia station for more than nine years, gaining lots of experience.
Sheinelle joined the Today show team on October 4, 2014. At first, she was part of Weekend Today. In January 2019, she became a co-host on 3rd Hour Today. This meant she was working six days a week, hosting both the weekday and Saturday editions of the show.
On December 21, 2019, Sheinelle left Weekend Today. In February 2020, she had surgery on her vocal cord and could not speak for two weeks. She took six weeks off to recover fully. In 2021, Sheinelle was the executive producer for a documentary. It was called Stories We Tell: The Fertility Secret. This film looked at how fertility issues affect women, especially women of color.
Family Life
In 2007, Sheinelle Jones married Uche Ojeh. They met while they were both studying at Northwestern University. Sheinelle and Uche have three children together. They have two sons named Kayin and Uche, and a daughter named Clara.
