Shenandoah is a special kind of community in East Baton Rouge Parish, Louisiana, United States. It is called a census-designated place (CDP). This means it is a place that the government counts as a town for statistics, but it doesn't have its own city government.
Shenandoah is part of the larger Baton Rouge area. Many people live here. In 2020, about 19,292 people called Shenandoah home. The community has many neighborhoods, like Shenandoah Estates and White Oak Landing.
Shenandoah is also located within the area that might become a new city called St. George.

Where is Shenandoah Located?
Shenandoah is in the southeastern part of East Baton Rouge Parish. Its exact location is 30°24′5″N 91°0′16″W / 30.40139°N 91.00444°W. It shares a border with Baton Rouge to its west. To the south, it borders a place called Old Jefferson.
A road called Louisiana Highway 73, also known as Old Jefferson Highway, is near Shenandoah. This road goes northwest about 11 miles (18 km) to downtown Baton Rouge.
The total area of Shenandoah is about 6.25 square miles (16.2 square kilometers). Most of this area, about 6.20 square miles (16.1 square kilometers), is land. A small part, about 0.05 square miles (0.14 square kilometers), is water.

Learning in Shenandoah: Schools and Library
East Baton Rouge Parish Public Schools serves the students in Shenandoah. There are several schools that children in the area attend. Shenandoah Elementary School serves a large part of the community. Other parts are zoned for Parkview Elementary School or Wedgewood Elementary.
For middle school, most students go to Woodlawn Middle School, which is in Shenandoah. Some students go to Southeast Middle School in Baton Rouge. Almost all high school students attend Woodlawn High School in Old Jefferson. A small section goes to Tara High School in Baton Rouge.
There is also a private Catholic high school in Shenandoah called St. Michael the Archangel High School.
The East Baton Rouge Parish Library has a branch in Shenandoah. It is called the Jones Creek Regional Branch Library. This library is very large, about 35,000 square feet (3,252 square meters). It opened in April 1990 and was the first parish library paid for by local property taxes.
