Sherwood Shores is a small community in Grayson County, Texas, United States. It's called an "unincorporated community" because it doesn't have its own local government like a city. It's also a "census-designated place," which means the U.S. Census Bureau counts its population separately.

As of the 2010 census, about 1,190 people lived here. Sherwood Shores is located right on the Red River. This river forms the border between Texas and Oklahoma.

Tornadoes and Their Impact

Sherwood Shores has unfortunately been hit by powerful tornadoes in the past. These storms caused a lot of damage to the community.

The 1970 Tornado

On April 18, 1970, a very strong F4 tornado struck Sherwood Shores. An F4 tornado is a type of storm with extremely fast winds. This tornado sadly destroyed most of the community. Thirteen people in Sherwood Shores lost their lives, and at least three more died nearby.

The 2022 Tornado

More recently, on March 21, 2022, an EF2 tornado hit the town. An EF2 tornado is also quite strong, though not as powerful as an F4. This storm caused heavy damage to buildings and homes. Sadly, one person died, and 11 others were injured during this event.
