Shinichi Morishita (森下 申一, Morishita Shinichi, born 28 December 1960) is a former Japanese football player. He was a talented goalkeeper. After retiring as a player, he became a coach. He is now the assistant coach for the Myanmar national football team.

Playing for Clubs

Shinichi Morishita was born in Shizuoka, Japan, on December 28, 1960. After finishing university, he joined a football club called Yamaha Motors in 1983. This club later changed its name to Júbilo Iwata.

Morishita quickly became a key player. In the 1987–88 season, his team won the league championship! Because of his great performance, he was chosen for the "Best Eleven" team. This team features the best players in the league. He was also named the "Japanese Footballer of the Year" in 1987.

In 1992, the old Japan Soccer League changed. His club joined a new league called the Japan Football League (JFL). They won the championship in 1992 and came in second place in 1993. This success helped the club move up to the top league, the J1 League, in 1994.

In 1995, Morishita moved to another JFL club, Kyoto Purple Sanga. In the 1995 season, this club also finished second. This meant they were promoted to the J1 League as well! Shinichi Morishita played for Kyoto Purple Sanga until he retired in 1997. Throughout his career, he played in 313 league games.

Playing for Japan's National Team

Shinichi Morishita also played for his country, the Japan national team. This is a big honor, as only the best players get to represent their country.

He played his first game for Japan on June 4, 1985, against the Malaysian team. He also played in the qualifying matches for the 1986 FIFA World Cup.

From 1986, Morishita became the main goalkeeper for the national team. He played in important tournaments like the 1986 Asian Games and the qualifying games for the 1988 Summer Olympics.

Even when another goalkeeper, Shigetatsu Matsunaga, started playing more, Morishita still played in many matches. This included the Asian Games in 1990. He played a total of 28 games for Japan until 1991.
