Shinji Kobayashi (born August 24, 1960) is a Japanese football manager and a former player. He is currently the manager of the Tochigi SC football club.

Shinji Kobayashi: His Playing Days
Shinji Kobayashi was born in Unzen, Japan, on August 24, 1960. After finishing his studies at Osaka University of Commerce, he joined the Mazda football team in 1983. He played as a forward for this team until 1992.
Shinji Kobayashi: His Coaching Career
After he stopped playing football, Shinji Kobayashi started a new career as a coach. He began coaching at his old club, Mazda (which later became Sanfrecce Hiroshima). He worked there as a coach for the main team and as a manager for the youth team until 1999.
Moving to New Teams
In 2000, he moved to Avispa Fukuoka, and then to Oita Trinita in 2001. At Oita Trinita, he became the main manager in June 2001.
Winning the J2 League
In 2002, Shinji Kobayashi led Oita Trinita to win the J2 League championship. This big win meant the club was promoted to the J1 League, which is the top football league in Japan. He continued to manage the team until 2003.
Managing Other Clubs
In July 2004, he became the manager for Cerezo Osaka and stayed there until April 2006. After that, he managed several other clubs in the J2 League:
- Montedio Yamagata (2008-2011)
- Tokushima Vortis (2012-2015)
- Shimizu S-Pulse (2016-2017)
Shinji Kobayashi has a special talent: he managed four different J2 League clubs and helped every single one of them get promoted to the J1 League! In 2019, he joined J3 League club Giravanz Kitakyushu. He is now the manager of Tochigi SC.
