Tochigi Soccer Club, also known as Tochigi SC, is a Japanese football team. They are based in Utsunomiya, Tochigi Prefecture, Japan. The team currently plays in the J3 League, which is Japan's third-highest professional football league.

History of Tochigi SC

How the Club Started

The club was founded in 1953 by teachers in Tochigi Prefecture. Back then, they were called the Tochigi Teachers' Soccer Club. In 1994, the club started letting players from other jobs join. This is when they changed their name to Tochigi Soccer Club.

Moving Up the Leagues

In 1999, Tochigi SC won the Kanto Regional League. This helped them move up to the Japan Football League (JFL). The JFL was a step closer to becoming a professional team.

In 2005, the club announced they wanted to become a professional team. They aimed to join the J.League, which is Japan's top professional football league. By 2007, they were officially recognized by the J.League. This meant they were on their way to becoming a professional club.

On December 1, 2007, the J.League officially promoted Tochigi SC. This allowed them to play in J2, the second-highest professional league, starting in 2009.

Ups and Downs in the Leagues

Tochigi SC played in J2 for several years. However, in 2015, they finished last in the league. This meant they were moved down to J3, the third professional level.

After two seasons in J3, Tochigi SC worked hard and finished second in 2017. This achievement allowed them to move back up to J2. They stayed in J2 for seven years.

On October 27, 2024, Tochigi SC was moved down to the J3 League again. This happened after they lost a game to Shimizu S-Pulse.
