Club Career Highlights
Kisho Yano was born in Hamamatsu, Japan. In 2002, while still in high school, he was chosen as a "Designated Player for Development." This special status allowed him to join a professional team, Júbilo Iwata, even though he could still play for his high school team. However, he didn't play in any official games for Iwata.
After finishing high school, Yano joined J1 League team Kashiwa Reysol in 2003. He often came on as a substitute forward. In 2005, he started playing more, but his team, Kashiwa Reysol, was moved down to the J2 League at the end of the season. This is called being "relegated."
In 2006, Yano moved to Albirex Niigata. He quickly became a key player as a forward. Even though he was a tall center forward, he started playing as a right winger in 2009. This happened because Niigata got another forward who played a similar style.
In August 2010, Yano moved to Germany to play for Bundesliga club SC Freiburg. After a short time in Europe, he returned to Japan in February 2012. He rejoined Albirex Niigata. He started as a regular forward but later played more as a substitute. The team also struggled that year.
In 2013, Yano moved to Nagoya Grampus. He played as a center forward when another player was injured. When that player returned, Yano often came on as a substitute. In 2014, his new manager changed his position. Yano started playing as a right side back and became a regular player in that role. He played regularly each season. However, Nagoya Grampus was also relegated to the J2 League in 2016.
In 2017, Yano returned to Albirex Niigata for the third time. He played many games as a right side back. But again, Niigata was relegated to J2 at the end of the 2017 season. In 2018, a new manager moved him back to his original position as a forward.
International Career Highlights
Kisho Yano played for Japan's national teams at different age levels. He was part of the Japan U-17 team in the 2001 FIFA U-17 World Championship in 2001. He even scored one goal in that tournament.
He played his first game for the senior Japan national team on March 24, 2007. This was a friendly match against Peru. He also played in the 2007 AFC Asian Cup that year, coming on as a substitute in two games.
Yano scored his first goal for Japan on September 11, 2007. It was a winning goal scored in "injury time" (extra time added at the end of a half) against Switzerland. In May 2010, he was chosen to play in the 2010 FIFA World Cup. At the World Cup, he played once, coming on as a substitute against Cameroon. This was his last game for Japan, bringing his total to 19 appearances.
