Yasuharu Kurata, born on February 1, 1963, is a Japanese former football player. He was a talented midfielder and defender. Kurata also played for Japan's national football team.

Yasuharu Kurata: A Football Journey

Yasuharu Kurata was born in Fujieda, Shizuoka, Japan. He grew up loving football and went on to play professionally.

Playing for Clubs

After finishing college at the University of Tsukuba, Kurata joined a team called Honda in 1986. They played in the Japan Soccer League, which was the top football league in Japan at the time. He played for Honda for five years.

In 1991, he moved to another big club, Yomiuri. He played there for one season. During that year, his team had a lot of success! They won the 1991 JSL Cup and also the 1991–92 Japan Soccer League championship. Kurata retired from playing football in 1992.

Kurata also had the honor of playing for his country.

Football for Japan

In September 1986, he was chosen to play for the Japan national team at the 1986 Asian Games. He played his first game for Japan on September 20 against Nepal. In 1987, he also played in games to qualify for the 1988 Summer Olympics. He played a total of six games for Japan's national team until 1987.

Futsal for Japan

Besides regular football, Kurata also played futsal. Futsal is a version of football played indoors on a smaller field. In 1989, he was picked to play for the Japan national futsal team. He even played in the 1989 FIFA Futsal World Championship held in the Netherlands.

Becoming a Coach

After he stopped playing, Kurata started a new career as a coach.

He began coaching at Avispa Fukuoka in 1995 and worked there until 2006. In 2007, he moved to Vissel Kobe. In 2010, he became the manager for FC Gifu.

Later, in 2012, he went to China to coach the team Dalian Aerbin. He became their manager in 2014. In 2015, he came back to Japan and became the manager for Tochigi SC in July of that year. He also managed Fujieda MYFC in 2021.
