Shobha Nagi Reddy was an important Indian politician from Andhra Pradesh. She was born on December 16, 1968, and passed away on April 24, 2014. She served as a representative for the Allagadda area in the state's assembly.
Shobha Nagi Reddy was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Andhra Pradesh four times. She also held important roles like being the head of the Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. She was a spokesperson for the Praja Rajyam Party and was a key member of the Telugu Desam Party before that. Later, she joined the YSR Congress Party. Her husband, Bhuma Nagi Reddy, was also a well-known politician.
Early Life and Family
Shobha Nagi Reddy grew up in Allagadda, Kurnool, which is in Andhra Pradesh. She was the younger daughter of S. V. Subba Reddy, who was also a politician. Her sister, Nagarathamma, was a former minister.
Shobha also had an elder brother, S.V. Mohan Reddy, who is involved in politics. She completed her early education in Allagadda.
Journey in Politics
Shobha Nagi Reddy started her political journey in 1996. Before that, she was a homemaker. Her husband, Bhuma Nagi Reddy, became a Member of Parliament. This meant he had to leave his position as a Member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly for the Allagadda area.
Shobha then ran for the vacant assembly seat. She won as a candidate for the Telugu Desam Party. She was elected to the state assembly four times in a row. This made her one of the few women in Andhra Pradesh to serve as a legislator, following in her father's footsteps.
In 2004, she tried to win a seat in the Lok Sabha, which is India's main parliament, but she was not successful. In 2008, she and her husband joined a new political group called the Praja Rajyam Party.
Later, in 2011, after the Praja Rajyam Party joined with another party, Shobha decided to join the YSR Congress Party. She continued to work hard for her community.
In 2014, even after her sudden passing, Shobha Nagi Reddy won the Allagadda state assembly election. She had been a candidate for the YSR Congress Party. This was a unique situation where a candidate won an election after their death.
Personal Life
Shobha Nagi Reddy married Bhuma Nagireddy in 1986. They had three children together. Their family includes two daughters, one of whom is Bhuma Akhila Priya, and a son.
Passing Away
On April 23, 2014, Shobha Nagi Reddy was in a car accident. The SUV she was traveling in overturned near Gubagundam Metta. She was on her way back after campaigning for the upcoming 2014 assembly elections.
Sadly, she passed away hours later while receiving treatment in a hospital in Hyderabad. She was 45 years old at the time. Her husband, Bhuma Nagi Reddy, passed away a few years later in 2017. They are survived by their three children.
