The Lestoidea brevicauda, also known as the short-tipped bluestreak, is a cool insect from Australia. It's a type of damselfly, which is a lot like a dragonfly but usually smaller and holds its wings differently when resting. This damselfly belongs to a family called Lestoideidae.

This special insect is only found in one place: north-east Queensland, Australia. This means it is endemic to that area. It loves to live near streams in the beautiful rainforests there.

What Does It Look Like?

The short-tipped bluestreak is a medium to large damselfly. It has a dark body with markings that can be dull orange or greenish. These colors help it blend in with its rainforest home.

How It Got Its Name

The scientific name for this damselfly is Lestoidea brevicauda. The second part of its name, brevicauda, comes from two Latin words. "Brevis" means short, and "cauda" means tail.

So, "brevicauda" means "short tail." In 1996, a scientist named Günther Theischinger gave it this name. He noticed that the male damselfly has short parts at the very end of its body, which look like a short tail.
