Shrewsbury Church is an old and important Episcopal church located in Kennedyville, Maryland. It was built way back in 1834. This church has a special look, with its Gothic-style features added in 1890.

What is Shrewsbury Church?

Shrewsbury Church is a beautiful brick building in the countryside. It has a tall, strong tower at its entrance. This tower has three parts and a top that looks like the walls of an old castle!

Inside, there is a low, single-story area called the chancel. This is the part of the church where the altar is located. The church also has beautiful wooden furniture made from walnut, designed in the Gothic style.

A Look at Its History

The church was first known as South Sassafras Parish. It was one of the very first 30 churches in the area. These churches were part of the original Anglican parishes in the Province of Maryland.

An important person named John Cadwalader is buried in the churchyard. He was a general who fought in the American Revolutionary War.

A Historic Landmark

Shrewsbury Church is considered a very important place. Because of its history and unique style, it was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1986. This means it is officially recognized as a historic site in the United States.
