History of the Show
The Shrewsbury Flower Show took a break during the Second World War. But it came back to life in 1946! A very important person named Percy Thrower helped a lot. He was Shrewsbury's Parks Superintendent from 1946 to 1975. He also advised the Shropshire Horticultural Society on plants and eventually became its chairman.
In 1970, the show lost a lot of money because of bad weather. Percy Thrower and Doug Whittingham stepped in to help. They promised to cover any losses so the show could keep going. Luckily, the weather was better in 1971, and the show made a profit!
What You Can See at the Show
The show is huge! It covers about 29 acres (that's like 17 football fields!) of The Quarry park. There are many large tents where you can see all sorts of cool things.
Amazing Displays
You'll find beautiful displays of flowers, tasty fruits, and fresh vegetables. It's like a giant garden party! You can also buy unique arts and crafts made by talented people.
Entertainment for Everyone
The show isn't just about plants! There are three military bands playing music, exciting show jumping competitions, and lots of other music and fun entertainment. Each evening ends with a big, colorful firework display that lights up the sky!
Meet Famous Chefs
Many famous chefs, like James Martin and 'The Hairy Bikers', come to the show every year. They do live cooking demonstrations, showing everyone how to make delicious food. It's a great chance to learn new recipes!
Around 60,000 people visit the Shrewsbury Flower Show over the two days. It's a very popular event for families and garden lovers!
