Sidensjö is a small town, or locality, located in Örnsköldsvik Municipality in Västernorrland County, Sweden. In 2010, about 399 people lived there. It's also known as a parish, which is like a church district.

Discovering Sidensjö's Past
Sidensjö has a long and interesting history. In 1915, the parish of Sidensjö was very large. It covered an area of about 39,416 hectares. Today, the parish is still quite big. It includes 33 smaller villages and covers 389 square kilometers.
How Sidensjö Became a Municipality
On January 1, 1952, Sidensjö joined with another parish called Nätra. They formed a new, combined local government area. This was known as Nätra municipality. Later, in 1971, Nätra municipality became part of the larger Örnsköldsvik Municipality.
Life in Sidensjö Today
Sidensjö is located next to Lake Bysjön. It is about 23 kilometers west of Örnsköldsvik in the Ångermanland province. In 2004, about 1,191 people lived in Sidensjö. This is fewer than at the start of the 1900s, when there were around 2,500 residents.
The center of Sidensjö has several important places. You can find Sidensjöskolan, which is a school for younger students. There is also a local bank, a grocery store, and an outdoor ice hockey rink. For sports fans, there are football pitches belonging to Sidensjö IK. The Fyrklövern service house offers an old people's home and a nursery school.
Exploring Sidensjö Church
One of the most important sights in Sidensjö is its church. The Sidensjö Church was built in the 14th century. This makes it one of the oldest churches in the Örnsköldsvik municipality. When the church's foundation was repaired in the early 1900s, many old skeletons were found under the floor. Among them was a priest from the 1800s. A young woman was also found in the sacristy, which is a room in the church.
Fun Places to Visit in Sidensjö
Just southeast of the church, you can find the Sidensjö Village Hall. It has a café that is open during the summer. Next to the church is a special power station. This station uses the water from the Nätraån river to create electricity. The Nätraån river is also a great place for canoe paddling.
A very popular spot for visitors is the "Bywatch" beach. It is on the eastern shore of Lake Bysjön. At the beach, there is a bridge and a volleyball net. During the summer, you can even find a swim school there.

In November 2003, a company called Skanova installed ADSL in Sidensjö. ADSL is a type of internet connection. This made high-speed internet available to most people living in the area.
Community and Sports in Sidensjö
Sidensjö has many active groups and clubs. The biggest ones include IOGT-NTO, which is a Swedish organization that promotes a healthy lifestyle, and Sidensjö IK.
Sidensjö IK: A Hub for Sports
Sidensjö IK is a very active sports club. It has different sections for various sports. The most popular sports are orienteering, cross-country skiing, and football.
In 1994, Sidensjö IK helped organize a big orienteering competition. It was called 'O-ringen 5-dagars'. The club also organized 'Natt-SM in orienteering' in 2004. During the 1980s, Sidensjö had a women's football team. They even played in the Damallsvenskan, which is a national football league. As of the 2007/2008 season, the men's team was playing in Division 5.
The club has always focused on activities for young people. This work has helped many young players develop their skills. Some of these players now play in Division 2 Norrland, which is a higher league.
