He served as a Member of Parliament and held many different jobs as a minister in the Cabinet of Malawi starting in 2004. He was the Minister of Transport and Public Works from June 2020 until he passed away. Sidik Mia was also the Deputy President of the Malawi Congress Party (MCP). He died because of an illness related to COVID-19 during the global pandemic. He ran for Vice President alongside Dr. Lazarus Chakwera in the 2019 Malawian general election.

Early Life and Helping Others

Sidik Mia was born in 1965 in a place called Chikwawa. He studied Business Management and earned a diploma. After his studies, he started several businesses in Malawi. He also made friends with many wealthy business partners. These partners later became big supporters of the Democratic Progressive Party.

Sidik Mia's father, Abdul Wahab Sidik Mia, was born in Nsanje, Marka. He was a successful businessman and a kind person who helped others. He was very important in the politics of Nyasaland, which is what Malawi was called before, and later in Malawi itself.

Besides being a politician, Sidik Mia loved spending time with people from all walks of life. He paid for school fees for many students who couldn't afford it. He also helped many people in need through his charity programs. He was a very religious person and a devoted Muslim.

Political Journey

Sidik Mia became a Member of Parliament for the Chikwawa-Nkombedzi area in May 2004. This area is in the southern part of Malawi. In June 2004, he was made the Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Food Security.

After President Bingu wa Mutharika passed away, Joyce Banda became the new president. Sidik Mia and 18 other members of the Democratic Progressive Party decided to support Joyce Banda as President. This happened after a time of political uncertainty in Malawi in 2012.

In January 2014, Sidik Mia left the People's Party (PP) and also resigned from his job as Minister for Transport. In 2017, he joined the Malawi Congress Party. He then became the running mate for its leader, Lazarus Chakwera, in the presidential election.
