Sidney Day's Amazing Bravery

On 26 August 1917, Corporal Day showed incredible courage. This happened near Hargicourt, France. He was leading a team to clear enemy trenches. These trenches were still held by the enemy. He bravely dealt with enemy soldiers. He also captured four prisoners.

Right after this, a bomb fell into a trench. Five soldiers were in this trench. One of them was badly hurt. Corporal Day quickly grabbed the bomb. He threw it out of the trench. The bomb exploded right away, saving his comrades.

He then finished clearing the trench. He set up a new position further forward. He stayed at this dangerous post for 66 hours. The area was under heavy enemy fire. His actions showed great bravery and leadership.
