The Sierra La Culata National Park (Spanish: Parque nacional Sierra de La Culata) is a special place in Venezuela. It is found in the Andes mountains, in the states of Mérida and Trujillo. This park became a national park on December 7, 1989.
It is a high mountain area. Temperatures can range from about -2°C (28°F) to 24°C (75°F). The park covers a huge area of 200,400 hectares (about 774 square miles).
Plants of the Park
Sierra La Culata National Park is home to many interesting plants. You will find many types of frailejones here. These are tall, fuzzy plants that look a bit like palm trees.
Other plants include shrubs like ericaceae and melastomataceae. There are also many ferns, mosses, and lichens. A special tree in this area is called the Coloradito.
Animals of the Park
This park protects many different animals. Some of the larger animals include the mighty Jaguar and the Spectacled bear. You might also spot an Armadillo.
In the water, you can find the Loach, a type of fish. High in the sky, the majestic Andean condor soars. There are also small amphibians, like the nurse frog.
