Sierra Mazateca facts for kids
The Sierra Mazateca is a mountain region in southern Mexico. It's found in the northern part of the state of Oaxaca. This area is part of the larger Sierra Madre de Oaxaca mountain range. The region gets its name from the Mazatec people, who have lived there for a very long time.
Geography of Sierra Mazateca
The Sierra Mazateca is split into two main parts. The western part is in the Teotitlan del Camino area. This district is part of the Cañada Region. The eastern part of the Sierra Mazateca is in the Tuxtepec area. This district belongs to the Papaloapan Region.

Miguel Alemán Dam and Lake
In 1954, a big change happened in the eastern Sierra Mazateca. The Miguel Alemán Dam was built there. This dam created a large body of water called Miguel Alemán Lake. Because of the dam, a part of the Sierra Mazateca region became covered by the lake's waters.
