Sierra de Falcón facts for kids
The Sierra de Falcón is a group of mountains in Falcón State, Venezuela. These mountains are not very tall. They are mostly made up of two smaller mountain ranges: the Sierra de San Luis and the Sierra de Churuguara. The Sierra de Falcón stretches from east to west and is part of a larger mountain system called the Coriano System. A big part of the Sierra de San Luis has been turned into a special protected area called the Juan Crisóstomo Falcón National Park.
Where the Mountains Are
The Sierra de Falcón has natural borders. To the north, it is partly bordered by the Médanos Isthmus. An isthmus is a narrow strip of land connecting two larger land areas. To the south, the mountains are bordered by the Tocuyo River.
Towns in the Mountains
Many towns and areas, called municipalities, are found within or near the Sierra de Falcón. The main ones are:
- Bolívar
- Petit Municipality
- Federación Municipality
- Unión Municipality
- Sucre Municipality
Also, the southern parts of these municipalities are in the area:
- Miranda Municipality
- Colina Municipality
The Sierra de Falcón covers an area of about 4,219 square kilometers (about 1,629 square miles). Around 40,000 people live in this mountain region.
