Signal Port was once a small community in Mendocino County, California. It was also known as Hardscratch or simply Signal. Today, it is no longer an active town or settlement.

What Was Signal Port?

Signal Port was a place where people lived and worked, but it is now abandoned. It was located in the state of California, in a county called Mendocino.

Where Was Signal Port Located?

This former settlement was found near a small stream called Signal Creek. It was about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) northwest of another place called Fish Rock. Signal Port was situated at an elevation of 108 feet (33 meters) above sea level.

Why Was It Called Signal Port?

The name "Signal Port" comes from how people communicated there. Signals were given to ships that were waiting in the water. These signals told the ships when it was their turn to load lumber from the area.

A post office named Signal operated briefly in 1882. Later, the Signal Port post office was open from 1888 to 1890. This shows that it was a recognized place for a short time.
