Sigrun Hoel (born 10 October 1951) is a Norwegian lawyer and a person who works for the government. She is also a professor and a feminist. A feminist is someone who believes in equal rights for all genders.
Sigrun Hoel was the 22nd President of the Norwegian Association for Women's Rights (NKF). She held this important role from 1984 to 1988. Before becoming president, she led the Oslo chapter of NKF. She was also the Vice President of NKF. She worked to make sure everyone was treated fairly.
Early Life and Education
Sigrun Hoel was born on October 10, 1951. She studied law at the University of Oslo. In 1977, she earned her law degree. This degree is called a cand.jur. or LL.M.
Working for Equality
Sigrun Hoel helped create the Gender Equality and Anti-Discrimination Ombud. This was the first office of its kind in the world. Its job is to make sure people are not treated unfairly because of their gender.
She started working there in 1979. She was a main helper to the head of the office, Eva Kolstad. Eva Kolstad was also a former NKF President. Sigrun Hoel also worked with the next head, Ingse Stabel.
Sigrun Hoel was the acting Gender Equality Ombud several times. She took on this role in 1984, 1988, and 1991. This means she was in charge for a short time.
A Career in Law and Teaching
Later in her career, Sigrun Hoel became a law professor. She taught at Oslo and Akershus University College. She shared her knowledge of law with students.
She also helped plan a big meeting called Nordic Forum in 1988. This meeting brought together people from the Nordic countries. They discussed important topics.
