Silas Weir Mitchell (born Silas Weir Mitchell Neilson on September 30, 1969) is an American actor. He is known for playing interesting and often intense characters in TV shows. You might recognize him as Charles "Haywire" Patoshik in the TV series Prison Break. He also played Donny Jones in My Name Is Earl and Monroe in the popular NBC show Grimm.

Early Life and School Days
Silas Weir Mitchell grew up in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was named after one of his ancestors, a famous doctor and writer from the 1800s, also named Silas Weir Mitchell.
For elementary school, he went to The Montgomery County Day School. Later, he attended St. Paul's School, which is a boarding school that prepares students for college. After high school, he went to Brown University in Rhode Island. There, he studied Theatre and Religion. He then continued his acting education at the University of California San Diego, earning a Master of Fine Arts degree. Before becoming a well-known actor, he spent some time in New York City, performing in smaller theater plays.

He had important recurring roles in several TV series. In 24, he played Eli Stram. He was also in Numb3rs. Fans of My Name Is Earl will remember him as Earl's friend, Donny Jones, who was an ex-convict. One of his most famous roles was Charles "Haywire" Patoshik in Prison Break. In both Prison Break and My Name Is Earl, he played a character who was a prison inmate.
Mitchell also appeared in many other popular shows. These include Cold Case, ER, CSI: Miami, CSI: NY, Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Burn Notice, Dexter, Monk, Six Feet Under, The X-Files, and The Closer. In 2008, he was in the final season of the police show The Shield.
