Silverton, Missouri facts for kids
Silverton is a historic place in Douglas County, Missouri, in the United States. It's officially known as a "populated place," but it's more like a former town that doesn't have many people living there anymore. It was once located near Spring Creek, close to Wasola.
What Was Silverton?
Silverton was a small community that existed many years ago. It was found along County Road 317, which followed Spring Creek. The area was also near Hilo Cemetery and Route N on Hilo Ridge. There was another place called Hilo, but it was not the same as Silverton, even though the names might sound similar.
A Town with a Post Office
Like many small towns in the past, Silverton had its own post office. This post office first opened in 1889. It served the community for many years, helping people send and receive letters and packages. However, the post office eventually closed down in 1933. This often happens when a town's population shrinks, and fewer people need its services.
