Silvia Calzón Fernández was born on June 3, 1975. She is a Spanish epidemiologist and politician. An epidemiologist is a scientist who studies how diseases spread and how to control them.
Currently, she is the Director of the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency. This agency works to prevent athletes from using banned substances to cheat in sports. Before this, she was the Secretary of State for Health from 2020 to 2023.

About Silvia Calzón
Silvia Calzón was born in Utrera, a town in Seville, Spain. She was the second of three children in her family. Her father worked in construction, and her mother managed their home.
Silvia went to Álvarez Quintero and Ruiz Gijón schools. She later studied medicine at the University of Seville. She became a specialist in preventive medicine and public health. This means she learned how to stop diseases before they start and how to improve health for everyone.
She also earned a doctorate from the University of Granada. A doctorate is a very high academic degree. She also has master's degrees in public health and health management.
Silvia Calzón's Career
Early Political Life
From a young age, Silvia Calzón was interested in both medicine and politics. She joined the Socialist Youth of Spain. This is the youth group of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party, a major political party in Spain.
In 1999, she was first elected to the Utrera City Council. This is like being a member of the local government. She also served as a deputy mayor, helping to lead the city. In 2007, she ran to become the mayor of Utrera.
By 2020, Silvia Calzón was leading her political party's group in Utrera.
Work in Health
In 2013, Silvia Calzón started working as an epidemiologist. She worked for a health district in Málaga. In 2015, she left her role in the Utrera City Council. She became the Managing Director of the South of Córdoba Health Management Area.
Two years later, in 2017, she took on the same role for the South of Seville Health Management Area. From 2019, she was the main epidemiologist for the Health District of Seville. This was part of the Andalusian Health Service.
Secretary of State for Health Role
In August 2020, Spain's Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, brought back the role of Secretary of State for Health. This was done to improve Spain's health response during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Silvia Calzón was chosen for this important job. She officially started on August 5, 2020. This made her the second-in-command at the Ministry of Health. She played a key role in helping Spain deal with the pandemic.
She left this position in November 2023. In January 2024, she was appointed as the director of the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency. This role focuses on ensuring fair play in sports by preventing doping.
