Silvia Calzón Fernández (born on June 3, 1975) is a Spanish expert in public health and a politician. She is currently a commissioner for the Nuclear Safety Council. She also held important roles as the Secretary of State for Health from 2020 to 2023. For a short time in 2024, she was the director of the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency.

Silvia Calzón's Early Life and Education
Silvia Calzón was born in Utrera, a town in the Seville region of Spain. She was born on June 3, 1975. She was the middle child of three siblings. Her father worked in construction, and her mother managed their home.
Silvia attended Álvarez Quintero and Ruiz Gijón schools. She later studied medicine at the University of Seville. After that, she became a specialist in preventive medicine and public health. She also earned a doctorate in economics from the University of Granada. She has master's degrees in public health and health management.
Silvia Calzón's Career Journey
Starting in Politics
From a young age, Silvia Calzón was interested in both medicine and politics. She joined the Socialist Youth of Spain, which is the youth group of the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party. In 1999, she was first elected to the Utrera City Council. She also served as a deputy mayor at that time.
By 2020, Silvia Calzón was leading her political party's group in Utrera.
Working in Health
In October 2013, Silvia Calzón began working as a main public health expert for the Málaga-Valle del Guadalhorce Health District. In 2015, she left her role at the Utrera City Council. She then became the Managing Director of the South of Córdoba Health Management Area. Two years later, in 2017, she took on the same job for the South of Seville Health Management Area. From 2019, she worked as the main public health expert for the Health District of Seville. This was part of the Andalusian Health Service.
Leading the Ministry of Health
In August 2020, the Minister of Health, Salvador Illa, brought back the role of Secretary of State for Health . This was the highest leadership position within the Ministry of Health. The goal was to improve Spain's health response during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Minister Illa chose Silvia Calzón for this important job. She officially started on August 5, 2020. This made her the second-in-command of the Ministry of Health.
She left this position in November 2023. In January 2024, she was appointed director of the Spanish Anti-Doping Agency. This agency works to prevent athletes from using banned substances. In September 2024, she joined the Office of the Prime Minister. There, she directed the Department for Citizens Services.
In April 2025, Silvia Calzón was appointed as a commissioner of the Spanish Nuclear Safety Council. This council makes sure that nuclear power plants are safe.
