Silvio Frondizi (born January 19, 1907 – died September 27, 1974) was an important Argentine thinker and lawyer. He was the brother of Arturo Frondizi, who became president of Argentina, and of Risieri Frondizi, a well-known philosopher. Silvio Frondizi was involved with groups that wanted to bring about big changes in society. Sadly, he was killed in 1974 by a violent group called the Triple A.
About Silvio Frondizi
Silvio Frondizi was born in Paso de los Libres, a city in Corrientes Province, in 1907. He grew up with his brothers, Arturo and Risieri.
He studied law and earned a special degree called a juris doctor from the University of Buenos Aires. After finishing his studies, he became a law teacher at the University of Tucumán.
In 1943, there was a sudden change in government in Argentina, known as a coup d'état. Silvio Frondizi did not agree with this change. Because of his views, he left his job on the university's main council.
Later, in 1946, a new president named Juan Perón came to power. President Perón had strong views against communism. As a result, Silvio Frondizi was removed from his teaching job at the university.
His Work and Beliefs
In 1955, Frondizi started a group called Praxis y Movimiento de Izquierda Revolucionaria (MIR-Praxis). This was a group that wanted big social and political changes.
He also traveled to Cuba to support Fidel Castro's revolution. While there, he met Che Guevara, another famous revolutionary leader.
From 1958, Silvio Frondizi taught law again at the University of Buenos Aires and the University of La Plata. This was when his brother, Arturo Frondizi, became president of Argentina.
Silvio Frondizi was known for disagreeing with some of his brother's policies. For example, he opposed a law in 1959 that supported private religious schools.
During the 1960s and early 1970s, he used his legal skills to help people. He defended members of a political group called the Workers Revolutionary Party (PRT) who had been arrested.
A Difficult Time
Silvio Frondizi was killed by a violent group known as the Triple A in September 1974. This group was known for its violent actions.
Later, a person named Anibal Gordon, who was linked to the Triple A, was found responsible for his murder. Another person, Rodolfo Almirón, also connected to the Triple A, was later investigated for his role in the murder.
