Silyanov Peak facts for kids
Silyanov Peak is a tall, pointy mountain peak in the Ellsworth Mountains of Antarctica. It stands about 2,250 meters (that's over 7,300 feet) high! This peak is part of a long ridge that stretches for about 14.3 kilometers (nearly 9 miles). It has steep sides that are mostly free of ice on its east and southwest slopes.
The peak is named after a famous Bulgarian person named Hristo Silyanov (1880-1939). He was a writer, a historian, and a journalist who played an important role in Bulgarian history.
Where is Silyanov Peak?
Silyanov Peak is located in a part of Antarctica called the Sentinel Range. You can find it at these coordinates: 78°01′51.8″S 86°32′52″W / 78.031056°S 86.54778°W.
It's about 15 kilometers (9.3 miles) southwest of Mount Dalrymple. It's also about 11.4 kilometers (7.1 miles) northwest of Mount Hale. The United States first mapped this area in 1961.
