The Simmons's tree frog (Hyloscirtus simmonsi) is a special type of frog. It belongs to the Hylidae family, which includes many tree frogs. This frog is only found in one country: Colombia. It lives in warm, wet mountain forests and near rivers. Scientists have seen it high up in the mountains, between 1,100 and 2,000 meters (about 3,600 to 6,500 feet) above sea level. Sadly, its home is disappearing, which is a big problem for these frogs.

About Simmons's Tree Frog

Simmons's tree frog is a small amphibian. It spends most of its life in trees and plants. Like other tree frogs, it has special pads on its toes. These pads help it climb and stick to surfaces. This allows it to move easily through its forest home.

Where Simmons's Tree Frog Lives

This unique frog lives only in the country of Colombia. It prefers specific places in the mountains. These areas are known as subtropical or tropical moist montane forests. "Montane" means it lives in mountainous regions. The forests are very wet and warm, which is perfect for frogs. They also need rivers nearby for parts of their life cycle.

What Threatens This Frog

The biggest danger to Simmons's tree frog is habitat loss. This means the places where it lives are being destroyed. People might cut down forests for farming or building. This takes away the trees and plants the frogs need for shelter and food. When their homes disappear, these frogs struggle to survive. Protecting these forests is very important to help Simmons's tree frog.
