A Look Back: The History of Simms
The community of Simms was named after G.W. Simms. He helped start a post office there in 1890. Just two years later, in 1892, Simms began to grow. It had a gristmill, which grinds grain, a gin for cotton, and a store. About 50 people lived there at that time.
By 1914, the number of people living in Simms grew to 150. However, during the 1930s, the population went back down to 50. Simms started to grow again in the 1940s. By 1982, the community had four different businesses. The population also jumped to 240 people and stayed at that number through the year 2000.

Simms is located in the southwestern part of Bowie County. It is about 9 miles (14 kilometers) southwest of a place called Boston, Texas.
