Simon Dunn (born 27 July 1987) was an Australian athlete. He was known for his skills in bobsledding and rugby. Simon grew up in Wollongong, Australia. He became a pioneer for inclusion in sports.

Simon Dunn's Sports Career

Simon Dunn started his sports journey playing rugby league. He played in Wollongong, south of Sydney. Later, he joined the Sydney Convicts Rugby club.

Bobsledding Journey

Simon traveled to Canada to play more rugby. While working at a sports gym, he got a chance. He tried out for the Australian bobsleigh team. Simon made the team and represented his country. This made him a trailblazer in the sport. He was the brakeman for Lucas Mata.

In November 2016, Simon announced his retirement from bobsleigh. He then moved to London, UK. There, he played rugby with the Kings Cross Steelers.

Awards and Recognition

Simon was recognized for his impact in sports. He was nominated for the Australian LGBTI Awards. He was shortlisted for Sports Personality of the Year in 2018 and 2019.

Writing and Media

Simon also shared his thoughts as a columnist. He wrote for online editions of Attitude, Gay Times, and DNA magazines. More recently, he wrote for GuysLikeU and Gays with Kids.

Return to Bobsleigh

In July 2021, Simon announced his return to bobsleigh. He planned to represent Australia at the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. He began training with the Australian team in September 2021. He competed in both 2-man and 4-man events in Whistler.

However, he suffered an injury during a race. He ruptured his bicep in Whistler, British Columbia. This injury required him to return to Australia for treatment. Simon stated that the injury made his chances for the 2022 Olympics very slim.

After his first retirement from bobsleigh, Simon focused on important social causes. He worked to support fairness and respect for all athletes. He also promoted health awareness.

Work in London

While in London, Simon appeared on Sky News. He discussed comments made by a professional rugby player. He also became the face of a national health test campaign. He even tested for a health condition live online.

Work in Sydney

After returning to Sydney, Simon continued his advocacy. He became an ambassador for GiveOUT Day. This initiative helps community groups. In 2020, Simon also became an ambassador for the Bobby Goldsmith Foundation. This foundation is Australia's longest-running health charity.
