Simon Price, born on September 25, 1967, is a writer and journalist from Wales. He is well-known for writing about music. He wrote a weekly review section in The Independent on Sunday newspaper for many years. Simon Price has also written books about famous music bands. These include Everything (A Book About Manic Street Preachers) and Curepedia: An A-Z of the Cure.

Writing About Music

Simon Price started his writing journey early. From 1984 to 1986, he wrote a music column for the Barry & District News newspaper.

In the 1990s, he worked as a writer for Melody Maker. This was a popular music magazine, and he worked there for nine years.

Later, from 2000 to 2013, Simon Price wrote weekly music reviews. These reviews appeared in The Independent on Sunday newspaper.

His book Everything is about the band Manic Street Preachers. In 1999, The Guardian newspaper said it was a very fast-selling rock book. It was also listed by The Guardian as one of the top ten books about rock music. Another writer, Ben Myers, called it a very well-researched and passionate book about a band.

Simon Price won awards for his live music reviews. He won the Record of the Day Live Reviews: Writer of the Year award three times. He received these awards in 2010, 2011, and 2012.

In 2023, he released a new book called Curepedia: An A-Z of the Cure. The Guardian newspaper named this book one of the best music books of that year.

DJ and Club Promoter

Simon Price was also involved in the music scene as a DJ. In the mid-1990s, he wrote a lot about the Romo music style for Melody Maker. He also helped run a club night called Arcadia. He worked as a DJ and tour manager for a Romo music tour.

In 2001, he helped create a club night called Stay Beautiful. This club played alternative glam and rock music. It was named after a song by the band Manic Street Preachers. The club ran for over 10 years in London. In 2011, it moved to Brighton and continued until 2016.

Since 2017, Simon Price has run another club night in Brighton. This club is called Spellbound and plays alternative music from the 1980s.

Simon Price has appeared on BBC radio and television. He shares his knowledge about pop music as an expert.

He also regularly contributes to a podcast called "Chart Music." On this podcast, they discuss old episodes of the music show Top of the Pops.

Simon Price's father was a radio presenter. Simon went to Barry Comprehensive school in Wales. He later studied French and philosophy at University College London.
