Simon Rolfes (born 21 January 1982) is a German football expert and a former player. He played as a defensive midfielder, a player who helps protect the defense. Today, he is the managing director of sport for Bayer Leverkusen.

Club Career Highlights
Starting Out at Werder Bremen
Simon Rolfes began his football journey at Werder Bremen. He grew up playing in their youth academy. From 2000 to 2004, he played for the reserve team. He scored 19 goals in 100 league games for them.
In 2002, he even played one game for the main Werder Bremen team. This was in a UEFA Cup match. He came on as a substitute in a big 8–0 win. Later in 2003, he was loaned to SSV Reutlingen for a short time. He played 13 games there.
Moving to Alemannia Aachen
Even though he played well for the reserve team, Simon didn't get many chances with Werder Bremen's main squad. So, in 2004, he moved to Alemannia Aachen. He played 28 league games for them and scored three goals. He also played in the German Cup and the UEFA Cup during his time there.
Becoming a Star at Bayer Leverkusen
The year 2005 was a big one for Simon Rolfes. He joined Bayer Leverkusen, a major club. He quickly became a favorite among the fans. He earned a regular spot in the team and soon became the captain.
Simon played many games for Bayer Leverkusen. He was a key player in the midfield. In the 2009–10 season, he had a serious knee injury. This meant he missed many games. He also missed the 2010 FIFA World Cup because of this injury.
He recovered and continued to be a very important player for Bayer Leverkusen. He played regularly until the end of his career. On 7 December 2014, Simon announced that he would retire from football. His last season was 2014–15.
Playing for Germany

Simon Rolfes also played for the German national team. He made his first appearance in a friendly game against Denmark in March 2007.
He was part of the German team that finished second at Euro 2008. He played in the quarter-finals against Portugal and the semi-finals against Turkey. Germany won both of these exciting matches.
Simon scored his first goal for Germany in September 2008. It was in a World Cup qualifying game against Liechtenstein. Germany won that game 6–0. As mentioned, he was set to play in the 2010 FIFA World Cup, but an injury stopped him.
Personal Life
Simon Rolfes married his wife, Jenny, on 12 June 2009. They have three daughters together.
