Simon Thelwall was a Welsh politician who lived a long time ago, in the 1500s and 1600s. He was born in 1561. We don't know exactly when he passed away. Early Life and Education
Simon Thelwall was the seventh son in his family. His father was John Wyn Thelwall, who lived at a place called Bathafern Park. Simon had a brother named Eubule Thelwall, who also became a lawyer and politician.
When Simon was 20 years old, he started studying at Balliol College, Oxford on October 16, 1581. Oxford University is a very old and famous university in England. He later earned a special degree called a Bachelor of Arts (BA) from St Mary Hall, Oxford on February 28, 1584. This degree showed that he had completed his first level of university studies.
Career and Public Service
After his university studies, Simon Thelwall continued his education in law. In 1591, he became a student at Lincoln's Inn. This was one of the special schools in London where people learned to become lawyers.
Simon worked in several important legal and administrative jobs:
- He was a Proctor of the Court of Arches. This meant he worked in a special court that dealt with church laws and matters.
- He was the Registrar of the diocese of Bangor. A diocese is an area managed by a bishop in the church, and a registrar keeps important records.
- He was also the Chief Clerk for Sir Daniel Donne. Sir Daniel Donne was a judge in a court called the Prerogative Court, which handled things like wills and estates after someone passed away.
In 1593, Simon Thelwall was chosen to be a member of parliament for a place called Denbigh. This meant he represented the people of Denbigh in the House of Commons, helping to make decisions for the country. He also owned a large piece of land known as Cefn Coch.
Later in his life, on August 22, 1631, Simon Thelwall received another important job. He became one of the people in charge of the Office of Revels. This office was responsible for organizing and managing entertainment, like plays and performances, for the King and Queen.
