Why Do Maps Say Thomas?
Things got a bit confusing in 1913. The people of Simpsonville wanted to open a new post office. Their old one had closed in 1906. However, postal officials said no to the name "Simpsonville." This was because another town in Matagorda County had just been given a post office with the same name. Because of this, the community started to be called Thomas, and you'll often see this name on highway signs and road maps today.
