History of Singha Durbar

This impressive palace was built a long time ago, in June 1908. A powerful leader named Chandra Shumsher had it constructed. He was a Prime Minister of Nepal at that time. The palace was designed to be grand and show the importance of the government.

Today, Singha Durbar is not just a palace where someone lives. It is now the main administrative center of the Government of Nepal. Many important government offices are located here. This means it's where many decisions for the country are made.

The 2015 Earthquake

In April 2015, a very strong earthquake hit Nepal. Singha Durbar was badly damaged during this natural disaster. Many parts of the old palace were affected. However, efforts have been made to repair and restore this historic building.
