Siol Gorrie (pronounced "Shee-ol Gor-ee") is a Scottish clan, which is like a large family group. They are a part of the bigger Clan Donald, one of Scotland's most famous clans.

The Siol Gorrie clan started with a person named Gorrie, also known as Godfrey. He was a son of John of Islay and Amy of Garmoran.

The Story of Siol Gorrie

Godfrey was an important leader and was known as the Lord of Uist. Uist is an island group in the Outer Hebrides of Scotland.

Early Challenges

The Siol Gorrie clan faced many challenges. They often had conflicts with their relatives, including Clan Ranald and Siol Murdoch. These fights were so serious that the Siol Gorrie clan almost disappeared after only three generations.

Important Events

In 1427, a key event happened. Alister MacGorrie, who was Godfrey's son, was put to death in Inverness by King James I of Scotland. This was a very difficult time for the clan.

Later, in 1495, the lands that belonged to the Siol Gorrie clan were given away. John of Islay, Earl of Ross, gave these lands to Hugh MacDonald, Lord of Sleat. However, Clan Ranald did not agree with this decision and fought against it.

Clan Homes

Clans in Scotland often had castles that were important to their history.

Castle Elantirrim

One important place connected to the Siol Gorrie clan is Castle Elantirrim. This castle is a historic site that tells part of the clan's story.
