Sir Allan Maclean, 3rd Baronet of Morvern (1645–1674) was an important leader of the Clan Maclean. He was the 19th Clan Chief, serving from 1651 to 1674. He later had a son, Sir John Maclean, 4th Baronet.

Life of Sir Allan Maclean

Sir Allan Maclean was born in 1645. He became the chief of his clan when he was only six years old. This happened after his brother, Sir Hector Maclean, 2nd Baronet, passed away in 1651.

Because Allan was so young, his family's lands and money were looked after by his legal guardians. These guardians were his uncles: Donald Maclean, 1st Laird of Brolas and Hector MacLean of Lochbuy. They worked to pay off some of the money that the Duke of Argyle claimed the Maclean family owed him.

The Duke of Argyle learned that the previous chief had borrowed money to prepare his clan for battle. So, the Duke bought these debts from the people the Macleans owed. This made the Duke's claims against the Maclean family even bigger.

However, after a big battle called the Battle of Worcester, things changed. The Duke of Argyle saw a chance to get money from the government led by Oliver Cromwell. He decided to focus on this new opportunity instead of continuing to bother the Maclean family for a while. Sir Allan Maclean passed away in 1674.
