Sir Charles Turner, 2nd Baronet (born January 28, 1773 – died February 1, 1810) was an English politician. He was known for serving as a Member of Parliament.
Early Life and Family
Sir Charles Turner was the son of Sir Charles Turner, Bt. His family lived at Kirkleatham Hall in Yorkshire, England. His mother was Mary, who was the daughter of James Shuttleworth from Gawthorpe Hall.
Joining the Army
In 1789, Sir Charles Turner joined the Army. He started as a Cornet in the Royal Horse Guards. A Cornet was a junior officer in a cavalry unit. He became a lieutenant in 1794 and 1795. Later, in 1797, he was made a captain in the 4th West Yorkshire militia.
Becoming a Politician
Sir Charles Turner decided to enter politics. In the general election of 1796, he was chosen as a Member of Parliament (MP). An MP is a person elected to represent a group of people in the country's parliament. He represented the area of Kingston upon Hull. He held this important position until the general election of 1802.
Later Life
Sir Charles Turner passed away in 1810. He was only 37 years old. He left his family home, the Kirkleatham estate, to his wife. He had married Teresa, who was the daughter of Sir William Gleadowe-Newcomen, 1st Baronet. After Sir Charles died, Teresa later married Henry Vansittart. Henry Vansittart became the High Sheriff of Yorkshire in 1820.
