Sir Edward Acton, 3rd Baronet (born around 1650, died 1716), was an important British politician. He held a special title called a Baronet. He also served as a Member of Parliament (MP) for the town of Bridgnorth.
Becoming a Leader
Edward Acton was born to Sir Walter Acton, who was the 2nd Baronet. When his father passed away in 1665, Edward inherited the title of Baronet. He also became the owner of the beautiful Aldenham Park near Bridgnorth.
His Education and Career
Sir Edward went to Queen's College, Oxford, a famous university. He earned a master's degree there in 1666. Later, in 1670, he went to Inner Temple to study law. This helped him become a barrister, which is a type of lawyer.
He was elected as a Member of Parliament for Bridgnorth. He served in this role from 1689 until 1705. During his time in Parliament, he usually supported the Tory political group. Sir Edward also started rebuilding Aldenham Park in the late 1600s, making it even grander.
Public Service Roles
Sir Edward Acton held several important positions. He became a "freeman" in different towns, which meant he had special rights there. He was a freeman in Bridgnorth in 1673, in Much Wenlock in 1676, and in Ludlow in 1697. He also served as the High Sheriff of Shropshire from 1684 to 1685. In 1701, he was appointed Recorder of Bridgnorth, a legal role.
His Family Life
Sir Edward Acton passed away in 1716 and was buried in Morville. He married Mary Walter on December 8, 1674. Mary was the daughter of John Walter from Somerset. Together, they had several children:
