Sir Edward Denny, 3rd Baronet (died 1 August 1831) was an important Anglo-Irish politician. An Anglo-Irish person was someone from Ireland with British family roots. His family, the Dennys, were very powerful in the town of Tralee and had a lot of political influence in County Kerry, Ireland.

Edward Denny was the son of Sir Barry Denny, 1st Baronet and his wife Jane Denny. He was also the younger brother of Sir Barry Denny, 2nd Baronet. He studied at Trinity College, Dublin, which is a famous university in Ireland.

Early Career and Title

Sir Edward held important local positions. In 1794, he was the High Sheriff of Kerry. This was a high-ranking official role, similar to a chief law enforcer for the county. He was also a Deputy Lieutenant for County Kerry, helping to represent the King or Queen in the area.

On October 20, 1794, Edward became the 3rd Baronet after his brother, Sir Barry, passed away. Sir Barry was killed in a duel with John Gustavus Crosbie. A duel was a formal fight, often with weapons, used to settle disagreements. This event started a long and bitter disagreement, known as a feud, between the Denny and Crosbie families. When John Gustavus Crosbie died suddenly in 1797 after falling from his horse, some local stories suggested that Edward had arranged for his death as an act of revenge.

Political Life

Sir Edward Denny was elected to the House of Commons of the United Kingdom in September 1828. He represented the area of Tralee as a member of the Tory party. However, he resigned from his position less than a year later, in June 1829. He left Parliament because he was not in good health. He passed away two years later, on August 1, 1831.

Family Life

Sir Edward Denny married Elizabeth Day on May 26, 1795. Elizabeth was the daughter of Robert Day, who was a judge in the Court of King's Bench (Ireland). Robert Day had also been a legal advisor to the Denny family. Edward and Elizabeth had six children together. Their children included Edward, Robert, Diana, and Anthony, who later became an Archdeacon of Ardfert, a senior church official. After Sir Edward's death, his eldest son, Edward, inherited the Baronet title. When the 4th Baronet died without children, the title then passed to Robert's son.
