Sir Frank Green, 1st Baronet (born November 28, 1835 – died December 3, 1902) was an important British businessman. He was also the 572nd Lord Mayor of London, a very important job in the city.

Early Life and Business

Frank Green was born in a town called Maidstone. He was the oldest son of John Green. As he grew up, he started his own business in London. It was a company called Messrs. Green and Company, and they sold paper. Their office was on Upper Thames Street. Frank Green became the main boss of this company.

Becoming a Leader in London

Sir Frank Green began his public service in 1878. He joined the City of London Corporation, which is like the local government for the historic part of London. He started as a Common Councillor for an area called Vintry Ward. Later, he became the deputy (assistant) for that area. In 1891, he became an Alderman, which is a more senior position in the city government.

While working in the Common Council, he was very active. He led several important committees. For example, he was in charge of the Bridge Head Estates Committee and the City Lands Committee, which dealt with property in the city. He also led the City Commission of Sewers, which looked after the city's drainage system.

Sir Frank Green was also a member of two old and respected groups called "Livery Companies." He was part of the Stationers Company (for people involved in printing and paper) and the Glaziers' Company (for glassmakers). He even served as the Master, or head, of both these companies.

Serving as Sheriff and Lord Mayor

In 1897, he was chosen to be a Sheriff of London. This is an old and important role that helps with legal and ceremonial duties in the city.

Then, in November 1900, Sir Frank Green was elected Lord Mayor of London. This was a very busy time for him. His year as Lord Mayor included some major historical events. Queen Victoria passed away, and there was a big state funeral for her. After that, her son, Edward VII, became King, and his coronation followed.

During his time as Lord Mayor, Sir Frank Green helped start the National Memorial to honor Queen Victoria. He also traveled to other big cities in the UK, like Glasgow, Manchester, and Winchester, as part of his duties.

At the end of his year as Lord Mayor, King Edward VII decided to give him a special honor. The King announced that Sir Frank Green would become a "Baronet." This is a title that means he would be called "Sir" and his family would have a special rank. He officially became a Baronet on December 15, 1901. He was also one of the Lieutenants of the City of London and helped manage Christ's Hospital, London, a famous school.

Sir Frank Green passed away on December 3, 1902, after a short illness. He was buried in Highgate Cemetery in London.

Family Life

In 1869, Frank Green married Kate Haydn. Sadly, Kate passed away in 1899. They had six children together: two daughters and four sons. Three of their sons later became Baronets after their father, one after the other. After the last son, the title ended.
