Sir Gilbert Heathcote was the son of Sir John Heathcote, 2nd Baronet. His mother was Bridget White. A "Baronet" is a special title, like a knight, that can be passed down in a family.

Gilbert went to college at Queens' College, Cambridge. This is a famous university in England.

Becoming a Baronet

When his father, Sir John, passed away in 1759, Gilbert inherited the title of 3rd Baronet. He also became the owner of Normanton Park.

His Time in Politics

In 1761, Sir Gilbert Heathcote was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP). MPs work in the House of Commons, which is part of the British government. Their job is to represent the people and help create new laws.

He represented an area called Shaftesbury. He held this important job for seven years, until 1768.

Sir Gilbert Heathcote was married twice.

Sir Gilbert Heathcote passed away in November 1785. His son, also named Gilbert, inherited his title and became the 4th Baronet.
