The Sir Harry Gibbs Legal Heritage Centre is a special museum in Brisbane, Australia. It is found on the ground floor of the Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law, Brisbane. This museum is the only one in Queensland that focuses on legal history. It helps people learn about the history of laws and courts. You can visit the Centre from Monday to Friday, between 9 am and 5 pm. The best part is, it's free to enter!

About the Centre's Name

The museum is named after a very important person, Sir Harry Gibbs. He was a famous judge from Queensland. Sir Harry Gibbs was the second person from Queensland to become the Chief Justice of the High Court of Australia. This is the highest court in Australia. He held this important role from 1981 to 1987. He also helped lead the Supreme Court of Queensland Library Committee for many years.

The Supreme Court of Queensland Library helps run this museum. The Centre first opened its doors on 3 August 2012. This was at the same time the Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law building opened. The money to create the Centre came from a group called the Incorporated Council of Law Reporting in the State of Queensland.

Special Features and Displays

Besides old legal items, the museum has cool modern features. There is a large "matrix wall" that shows information. You can also find digital screens and a big interactive touch table. This table is 2.4 meters long and lets you explore history with your hands.
