Sir Hugh Richard Hoare, 4th Baronet (born November 27, 1787 – died January 10, 1857) was an important English banker. He was a partner in the famous Hoare's Bank.

Life of Sir Hugh Richard Hoare

Sir Hugh Richard Hoare was born into a very well-known family. His father was Sir Henry Hugh Hoare, 3rd Baronet. His mother was Maria Palmer Acland. Her father was Arthur Acland.

Family and Title

Hugh Richard Hoare married Anne Tyrwhitt-Drake. Anne was the daughter of Thomas Drake Tyrwhitt-Drake. Sadly, Anne passed away on March 23, 1847. They did not have any children together.

Because he had no children, the family title passed to someone else after his death. The title went to his nephew, Henry Ainslie Hoare. Henry Ainslie Hoare was the son of Hugh Richard's brother, Henry Charles. Henry Charles had died earlier, in 1852.

Hugh Richard became the 4th Baronet when he was 54 years old. This happened on August 17, 1841. A baronet is a special British title. It is passed down through families.

Banking Career and Retirement

Sir Hugh Richard Hoare worked as a banker for many years. He was a partner at Hoare's Bank. This bank was, and still is, a very old and respected bank in London.

In 1854, he decided to retire from his banking job. He moved to Stourhead, a large estate. He had enough money to improve his lands. His estate was very big, covering about 11,000 acres.

Improving the Stourhead Estate

Sir Hugh Richard Hoare loved to improve his land. He planted many different kinds of trees on his estate. These included the Douglas Fir and the Western Hemlock. These trees are known for growing very tall. Planting them helped make the Stourhead estate even more beautiful.
