First Time in Parliament
In 1710, Sir James was elected as a Member of Parliament for Lanarkshire. He didn't have anyone running against him, which means he won without a contest. He had the support of a powerful person, the Duke of Hamilton. During this time, he wasn't very active in Parliament. He decided not to run for re-election in 1715.
Returning to Serve

Later Life and Legacy
Sir James Hamilton passed away on March 15, 1750. He did not have any children. Because of this, his family title, the baronetcy, and his estate (his land and property) went to his brother, Hugh. However, Hugh also passed away a few years later in 1755, and he never married or had children either.
When Hugh died, the title of Baronet for the Hamilton family of Rosehall ended. This is called becoming "extinct." The Rosehall estate then went to Sir James's half-sister, Margaret. After her, it was passed down to her oldest son, Archibald Hamilton of Dalzell.
